چکیده

AbstractBackground Studies comparing serum bilirubin trend and hematological profile of neonates with hemolytic nonhemolytic etiology are limited. Apart from high load, they at increased risk developing anemia in early days life. Methods A prospective observational study was conducted neonatal unit on late preterm term (>35 weeks) unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia (UH) to compare (initial peak), (hemoglobin [Hb] hematocrit [PCV]) 3 months), between non-hemolytic cases. Result Among 240 enrolled neonates, initial level higher haemolytic group than (mg/dl) (16.9 ± 3.2 vs. 14.6 4.1; p < 0.001), while peak were similar. Initial Hb (g/dl) (13.0 14.4 3.4; = PCV (44.9 8.7 51.2 5.9; 0.001) significantly lower group. At months age, (10.9 1.8 11.7 1.4; 0.002), (31.0 4.9 34.2 2.9; Conclusions Neonates UH due causes had bilirubin; admission. low follow up too requiring more number transfusions. Therefore anaemia, not only admission but also should be an important concern for such vigilant for.

Evaluation of the Predictive Value of Umbilical Cord Serum Bilirubin Level for the Development of Subsequent Hyperbilirubinemia in Term and Late-Preterm Neonates

Background: Considering the increasing rates of early hospital discharge and kernicterus in healthy full term newborns, timely identification of neonates at risk of severe hyperbilirubinemia is of great significance. The aim of this study was to investigate the predictive value of umbilical cord serum (UCS) bilirubin level for subsequent hyperbilirubinemia. Moreover, we compared the predictive ...

The Effect of Oral Fenofibrate on Serum Bilirubin Level in Term Neonates with Hyperbilirubinemia: A Randomized Clinical Trail

Background Several agents have been used for the treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, but the effect of oral fenofibrate on serum bilirubin level was not evaluated so much. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of oral fenofibrate on a total serum bilirubin (TSB) in term neonates with hyperbilirubinemia. Materials and Methods: This clinical trial was done on 80 term neonate with ...

Effect of Probiotics on Serum Bilirubin Level in Term Neonates with Jaundice; A Randomized Clinical Trial

Background In recent years, tendency to use drugs has been increasing in the treatment of neonatal jaundice. Several drugs have been used since then, but the effect of probiotics on serum bilirubin level (SBL) is not so clear. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of probiotics on SBL and the duration of phototherapy in term neonates with hyperbilirubinemia. Materials and Methods: In ...

A Comparison between Transcutaneous Bilirubin (TcB) and Total Serum Bilirubin (TSB) Measurements in Term Neonates

Background: Transcutaneous bilirubinometry (TCB) is a simple method for estimating bilirubin levels in neonates. This method is noninvasive, quick, and painless. We aimed to compare serum and cutaneous bilirubin measurements in term neonates.Method: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 200 neonates with icter with birth weights of at least 2500 grams were studied. TCB was measured using a...

Hyperbilirubinemia and bilirubin toxicity in the late preterm infant.

Late preterm gestation is an important risk factor for the development of severe neonatal hyperbilirubinemia and kernicterus. An exaggerated hepatic immaturity contributes to the greater prevalence, severity, and duration of neonatal jaundice in late preterm infants. Breast milk feeding is almost uniformly present and large for gestational age status, male sex, and G6PD deficiency are over-repr...
